Bio

Born in Gorey, Co Wexford and went to boarding school in Drogheda. Earned a bachelors degree in natural sciences at the College of Technology, Kevin Street, Dublin.

First job as a laboratory chemist with Shell and over the years moved to more commercial roles in industry with a number of companies. During this time also earned an honours commercial degree in business, marketing and finance. Added some supplementary qualifications in computing & programming (a hobby really, but useful & very interesting!).

Moved to Financial Services in 2001 and qualified with the UK Chartered Insurance Institute as an Independent Financial Advisor (IFA) & Mortgage Advisor (MAQ), and with the Securities and Futures Authority (now part of the FSA) in the UK as a stockbroker. Practiced as a Financial Advisor in life & pensions products, equities, corporate bonds and mutual funds (unit trusts). Also trained as an understudy to a stockbroker in the US (Jim Essian, thank you!).

Qualified with the Life Insurance Association (LIA) in Ireland as a QFA and contracted as a Financial Advisor and Pensions Consultant to Irish Pensions & Finance prior to setting up Hannan Financial in 2009. Returned to Irish Pensions & Finance in 2011 as Training Manager.

Completed Irish Pensions Board Trustee Training Programme in 2010. I can recommend it for Pension Scheme Trustees who now have to undergo compulsory training as per Irish regulatory requirements.

Working life has included spells, some lengthy, in the UK, South Africa, USA, Continental Europe, as well as Ireland of course. It’s great to be back in Ireland. Yes, I accept we have a lot of work to do to regain our national pride & international reputation, but let’s get on with it.

Personal ethos is as business ethos: act with integrity, maintain ethical principles; commitment and loyalty to those within my sphere of influence both personal and business. Essentially, do as I would wish to be done by. Proud father of a wonderful son who works in the aerospace industry.
