Will your Will or will you Won’t?

How often are we asked, “tell us what you would like to happen, and we’ll make sure it does”?

Not often, I’m sure!

I was reading a guide for making Wills in Ireland recently and the authors asserted that about half of us who are eligible to make a Will (or in perhaps more assertive terms, should have made a Will!) have not done so!

Why might this be?

Maybe because the question of what we would like to happen is so seldom asked of us it’s something we can’t quite get our heads around!

But who knows for sure – it could be for a thousand reasons!

Perhaps it’s like so many other aspects of a well-ordered life, a percentage will attend to it, others won’t.

So much of what we do, what we like to do, is about life and living – so is making a Will, perhaps contrary to popular perception.

And it’s nothing to do with only needing to have a Will if you are worth Zillions! The vast majority of normal, everyday people, of which I am one, should have a Will in place – it just makes good sense. In most cases it is vital!

Your Will is also closely allied to effective financial planning.

In any event, here are 5 excellent reasons to have a Will prepared, or update a Will that is out of date:

  • Provide for our loved ones and/or favourite charity as befitting circumstances and our wishes
  • Peace of mind knowing we have attended to our affairs as we should and as our loved ones would justifiably expect of us
  • Reduce the stress and travails surrounding bereavement when that time comes, as it must eventually do for all of us
  • Avoid potential disputes, bitterness, family feuds, legal proceedings, etc. needlessly frittering away our legacy
  • Avoid the State getting our property or unnecessarily levying excessive taxes

If you feel it’s something you should attend to, maybe we can help.

Like so many businesses these days, we at Hannan Financial cooperate with selected businesses that complement our services, such as legal practitioners who would carry out the legal work involved in making a Will. Where necessary this would include appropriate ancillary services such as trusts or enduring power of attorney.

These are established and experienced practitioners in whom we have confidence, in terms of service quality and value to ensure satisfaction for the client.

If you live in the Republic of Ireland and would like a free no obligation handout on the basic information you need to collect for the preparation of a Will, just pop me an email and I will forward a copy to you. From there you can decide what to do yourself. Complete confidentiality is assured, including your contact details.

When you have had a look at that you might decide you would like a quote for the preparation of a Will, which we can arrange for you, without obligation. Once again, this would of course be for residents of the Republic of Ireland only.

I am also running a promotion whereby I am offering a free financial review for local clients and potential clients, in which, subject to terms and conditions, a voucher to assist towards the costs of preparation of your Will may be available.

Please contact me in complete confidence if you would like further details. On-topic comments very welcome.
